Karlovy Vary Film Festival 57th




The 57th Karlovy Vary Film Festival unrolled its red carpet with Russell Crowe and Alicia Vikander, the thirty-four-year-old Swedish actress who won an Academy Award in 2016. Vikander is the STAR of opening film ‘Firebrand,’ about the last wife of King Henry VIII. Along with Vikander was husband, Michael Fassbender, other guests included Jiřina Bohdalová, Miroslav Donutil, Ivan Trojan, Jana Plodková.


Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Czech Republic and the most prestigious festival in Central and Eastern Europe.

Each year, the festival presents around 200 films from around the world and many important guests. The Karlovy Vary festival is aimed at both film professionals and the public and offers visitors a meticulously selected programme, excellent facilities, and a wide range of events.

The festival consists of several sections and accepts films shot in any format. The programme includes two competitive sections:

- Crystal Globe Competition: international competition of feature-length fiction and documentary films presented as world and international premieres.

- East of the West Competition: competition for first and second feature fiction and documentary films produced in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, and North Africa presented as World, International, OR European premieres.

The festival programme also includes non-competitive sections, focuses, retrospectives and tributes.
